Why Aren’t You Taking ACTION?

Start taking action. Life is too short to dick around! It’s not a hard question.  Doesn’t need a long answer.

Why haven’t you done what you said you would do?

Why did you stop half way?

Why can’t you seem to get moving now that you’ve stalled?

Why haven’t you written that book, published that book, created that online product, started that membership site, lost weight, taken up knitting, finished your nursing course and any number of other things?

Whatever answer you’ve just come up with, let me tell you that I’m here to help you.

When you don’t take action, you feel yuk!  You feel like a failure the longer it goes on!

You wonder why you even started and put in all that effort if you weren’t going to continue on with it anyway.  And if this is the second or the third or even the twentieth time you’ve stalled instead of leaping forward maybe you were even expecting this to happen!

You were weren’t you?

Maybe you’ve heard that your vision, your why, just isn’t big enough and that’s why you’re not sticking with it?

I call bullshit on that theory!  How dare someone tell you that you don’t want success or else you’d have it by now?

Of course we all want success.  We are programmed as humans to want success.  To achieve things and be improving all the time!

When you don’t take action it doesn’t mean you’re a bad person.  It doesn’t mean you don’t want to be successful.  It doesn’t mean you’re lazy or unmotivated or your ‘why’ isn’t big enough.

All it means is that you’re not taking action!

Simple huh?

Taking action means taking the first step.  The baby step towards your success.  And after that you take the next step.  And then the one after that!

Many of you reading this have already taken the first steps.  You might be up to step 20 but then you stop.

I’m here to help you start taking action again!

I’m taking names and calling you out on your excuses!

I’ll be jam-packing the Action Academy! full of motivational audios, helpful videos and loads of downloadable material to help you get moving.  You’ll receive reduced rates on my personal 1:1 coaching that you can only get your hands on inside the academy.  You’ll get 50% off every single product I release while you are a member – imagine joining my VIP days for half price?

  1. Hi Tracey,

I saw a comment of yours on Adrienne Smith’s blog and something compelled me to pop over here and learn about you. As I read this post and then your “about” page, I was struck by some of your wording and mindset. Maybe we have met in another life!! Just last week I wrote about people thinking that the life of one’s dreams was due to “luck” when in fact it’s about DECIDING and ACTION. Here I see you talking about that as well.

I’m loving the energy on your blog and your stories! I’ve traveled a lot of the world too, though most of it prior to having my one child arrive in our life. I look forward to reading more of your posts and getting to know you online!

    • Thanks Deborah – I’m glad you came for a little visit! Isn’t it awesome when you come across someone who’s really similar to you? Imagine all the people we were missing out on before the Internet??? A lot of people tell us we are lucky to travel and lucky to be exploring South East Asia at the moment and yes, they forget about all the effort we’ve put in and the sacrifices we’ve made. It was definitely taking action and not luck that has seen us have such an exciting few years.

Thanks so much for your kind words – they have put a little spring in my step for the rest of the day! Which is helpful since I’m about to pack up my computer and walk down to a restaurant right next to the beach for a day of writing!

I’ll pop on over to check out your site in a jiffy!

  2. Thanks for the quick reply Tracey. I can only imagine the planning that is involved with the lifestyle you lead!! Traveling with just one child is almost enough for me! I live 9000 feet above sea level from you – in a Colorado ski resort town. I post pictures from the tops of mountains I climb and often hear how “lucky” I am!
I want people to realize there is always a choice in how to live one’s life…I can tell you want them to realize it as well!

    Enjoy your day! Nighttime here.

  3. Now that is a very good question Tracey 🙂 Why do I not take action on some things? I think generally its because I have too many things going on and need to focus on just one and get it done. I have so many ideas going around my head I need and want to do for my business that sometimes I don’t do any of them! Its all about planning and setting a timeline calendar to do them which I am in the process of doing. Have been and still am a wee procrastinator but lately I have solved that issue with joining some groups of like-minded people who are doing the same as me and are accountability buddies. So I reckon your “No More Vanilla Living Action Academy” is definitely needed right now 🙂 Good idea.

    • Hi Jane – You’ve hit the nail on the head of course. Too many things vying for your attention all at once, throw in some distractions, a bit of normal procrastination and suddenly you’re getting nothing done! I think it would be easier if we went to the beach every day – at least we would know we didn’t put the effort in. But when you seem to spend all your time ‘working’ on your business and then still don’t get your tasks complete, it makes it really hard to take! The Action Academy! is perfect for this and I’m completely in love with it – it has meant that I’m getting my stuff done too which was an unexpected bonus. We had our first online Pyjama Party last night and lots of jobs were completed! We all agreed we would have left some of these aside if we weren’t online being accountable to each other! If you need some accountability too, you know where we are 🙂 Thanks a bunch for dropping by my little corner of the web!

  4. Funny, I’m taking action now and commenting! I’ve had a cold so I’ve been putting off all of the things (doctors orders) but I’m going slightly mad doing nothing. I figure comments are something I can do. However I’m not always ill and I do let things hold me back or I put them off when I’m well. At the moment I’m bribing myself with tv shows. If I write a blog I can watch an episode of tv etc. Still a work in progress tho.

    • Hey Sarah – sounds like you’re an action taker! Doing easy stuff when you’re sick is a sure sign I think. And bribing yourself with TV is a great idea. I find if I have a reward or even a deadline, I get a whole lot more stuff completed. Lately I’ve been using a Pomodoro App on my mobile phone – I work for 25 minutes and then have a 5 minute break. In the 5 minute break I’ve been doing a bit of housework. I’m getting lots more done and my house has never been so clean! Thanks for the comment – I really appreciate you taking the time to leave a short note!

  5. When people find out how many countries I’ve travelled to (while still having a career and starting a business, and a full life when I’m at home) they’re often want to know how I fit it in. For me it’s about priorities, if something is very important, then you’ll find a way to take action and make it happen. Enjoy helping others to take steps toward achieving their big goals.

On a side note, I see you were featured in Serena Star-Leonard’s book. I met her recently at an event in Melbourne and loved the travel plus community focus of some of her work…plus of course her focus on taking action.
Kristy recently posted…Third World Happiness Lessons for BusinessMy Profile

    • Wow Kristy – how awesome you met Serena! I’ve done her blogging course and just finished her blog to book course. She’s built some amazing communities and is incredibly giving with her time and effort! I was so excited to be featured in her recent book. You’re so right about prioritising to get everything done. We forget sometimes that we all have the same number of hours in every day. I really love completing things and being able to mark them off my list! Where are you travelling to next?

  6. As I’m reading these comments I thought I might share something I teach my clients and use myself for getting things done. It’s been so very helpful to have an ongoing list called “Things I Could Be Doing”. It’s not my main work activity list, nor is it my Zero-Level daily tasks that happen minimally in my business every day. Instead, it’s a list of ideas and mini-projects and mundane items like inbox cleaning. It’s for the times when you know you should be working but can’t quite focus in or decide exactly what to do. It’s for the moments when you feel a bit out of sorts, or overwhelmed yet know how important it is to just get started on something productive.

It’s amazing how one item accomplishments off the list on a day that starts out with the potential to be full-on procrastination, can lead to a bit more focus and then to the next task and then the next!!
Deborah Tutnauer recently posted…Entrepreneur Business Success ClubMy Profile

    • That’s a great idea Deborah. I mark my completed items off my various to do lists in a different colour each week. Then at the end of the week when I delete them I can see that I really did achieve a lot. You’re spot on about how finishing some items spurs you on to do others. When I look at the list all coloured in I have a real sense of achievement. And the reverse is that when I feel like I’ve been lazy and not got very far I just look at the list and I can see plenty was accomplished. I like to do the ‘things I could be doing’ kind of things while I watch TV – I don’t watch much and that makes it feel less like wasted time.

  7. I love the color idea Tracey!! I might just have to try that. I’m not a TV watcher almost ever so I use the list for times I’m just feeling unfocused…But many I know just have a hard time getting started and being productive so a list of productive activities to choose from helps them not give up and spend their work time just diddling around on social media or watching youtube videos of cute kittens!
Deborah Tutnauer recently posted…Entrepreneur Business Success ClubMy Profile

    • Curse those YouTube kittens! My family love YouTube and videos – I try to avoid wherever possible. They love TV almost as much which is why I break out the ‘puter to do some random tasks when it is on.

  8. Oh my gosh you make it sound like it’s easy 😛

But of course I suppose it’s supposed to be! Just do it, right??

I’m a huge procrastinator. On top of that, my ideas vary widely on what I want to do and out comes….

    You guessed it! Nothing!

Not because I’m lazy or don’t mean well, but it just happens!

Having someone push you towards your goals is so motivating, I’m glad you’re opening up an Academy for that! That’s great!

    • Hey Wendy – I think it’s really important to note that it is absolutely not because you’re lazy! Or that other nugget ‘your dream isn’t big enough’. What a load of crap! I can tell you that it is easier once you start though. The thinking about what you should be doing is the worst part. We are finding that time set aside twice a month is one of the major benefits of the Action Academy! Interesting that it’s become the focal point of the whole thing.

  9. And BTW, you’re the first person I’ve ever found that talks like me – short paragraphs, even a lot of one sentence paragraphs, and lots of exclamation points!

    • OMG that made me laugh out loud! Thanks so much for the comment – I will smile all day! I love short paragraphs and I may have an addiction to exclamation points. I write for a site where I’m limited to one exclamation mark per article. It nearly kills me to get those articles written – they seem to be lacking my personality!!!!
